If you’re looking to substitute the traditional Thanksgiving for a T.Hanksgiving (for whatever reason) – here are 24 movies with food options for an entertaining last Thursday in November.

Here
This is a new movie and it looks pretty epic, and there’s a chance not many have seen it yet.
There are three eating scenes in the movie, a picnic, a lunch and a holiday dinner including roasted turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy. Since it’s Hanksgiving, I suggest this be the ultimate and closest thing to a real thanksgiving meal.

The Green Mile
John Coffey’s last meal was a plate of fried chicken with gravy and tater tots. To which he said, it was fine but not like his momma used to make it – bonus if you can get your momma to make it. ❤

That thing you do
The band often requests on their raider: Cheeseburgers, BLTs, Turkey sandwiches, hot dogs and tuna sandwiches. So there’s a lot to choose from here. Pick your favorite band mate and go from there!

Forrest Gump
I think everybody knows that Forrest Gump is famous for shrimp and chocolate. So that will have to be on the menu, but shrimp is extremely versatile – you can make fried shrimp, tempura, sushi, shrimp tacos, shrimp risotto or pasta. Really, your only limit is your own imagination. Then bring out that box of chocolate for dessert.

A man called Otto
Otto is the grumpiest man in America, but his neighbor Marisol befriends him and brings him Mexican food. She gives him turtle sauce that he adds to pretty much anything. So go for a Mexican feast here, enchiladas, tortillas, nachos! Make it taco Thursday!

A league of their own
Another 1988 classic, a sports comedy drama based on All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.
Menu: All American game day food. Hot dogs, hamburgers, pretzels, fries, peanuts, nachos and ice cream.

The Terminal
The movie where Tom Hanks lives at the terminal unable to travel or exit, he lives off airport food. Maybe you have your favorite travel meal already picked out? In the Terminal he started eating the smallest things like crackers and garnish, before he worked the system, earned some money to upgrade to hot dogs and sandwiches. Maybe do a charcuterie board with crackers, cheeses, meats, salami etc.

Sleepless in Seattle
Since the movie is set in Seattle they eat at known restaurants near pike place. Clam chowder, and oysters specifically along with other seafood.
Clam chowder at pike place is my absolute favorite, but since we don’t have that here I’m going with a decent lobster bisque I found at the store. Fish soup could also be great substitute.

Big
A 1988 classic where an adolescent boy wishes to be “Big” and wakes up an adult.
In the movie he famously eats baby corn like regular corn on the cob and some Oreo’s. Other than that they don’t really show much food. I suggest a stir fry – since it’s the only dish I’ve ever eaten with baby corn.

Saving Mr. Banks
Playing Walt Disney there’s a scene where Tom Hanks eats BBQ ribs at a family picnic, so whip up those ribs and corn bread. If you want something easier, he also eats sandwiches and hot dogs.
OR if you want to dive more into Disney’s preference in real life, he was a big fan of Chili, make make a good pot of chili con carne!

You’ve got mail
There’s a famous caviar scene in this movie where Tom Hanks says the fish eggs are garnish. Other than that, they don’t really focus on food. So my suggestion here would be sushi – unless you can afford beluga, but in this economy – who can?

Cast Away
Tom Hanks alone on an island for 2 hours with nothing but a volleyball. He manages to forage catch fish and other seafood. And my favorite scene towards the end is when he is rescued and at the reception they have a buffet of seafood. It’s hilarious! He had nothing but seafood for years, the man want’s anything else at this point, but that’s lost on the people arranging the reception. So go for seafood, what he eats through the entire movie – or better yet – make a great steak!

The Davinci code
Robert Langdon just returned in Dan Browns new book, so maybe the movies are due for a rewatch? The DaVinci code was the first movie to hit our screens back in 2006.
Menu: Langdon orders a pastrami on rye sandwich from a deli, but he also eats vegetarian meals, once mentioned – minestrone soup.

Philadelphia
Tom Hanks lost a lot of weight for his role in Philadelphia and lived off only 800 calories a day. There’s no focus on food in the movie, but Hanks told the press that Denzel used to tease him with pizza and candy bars on set all the time. So maybe do a pizza party and your favorite candy bars for dessert.

Apollo 13
These are astronauts, so the standard food packages are dehydrated space food, such as beef and vegetables.
I think a very basic and traditional meal as substitute would be the standard meatballs, mashed potatoes and broccoli. You can’t miss with that.

Turner and Hooch
In this 80’s classic detective needs the help of a dog to catch a killer, they famously eat hamburger and drink beer. So flip the burgers, and don’t forget the buns. You can skip the watered down OJ, nobody wants that.

Road to perdition
Set in the 1930’s on the run from the mob, they are often seen in diners where burgers are visible and other typical diner meals. There’s a lot of burgers on the list, but if you’re gonna do this 1930’s style, make a home made patty and strip it down to the basics. Add glass of milk and a cup of coffee and you’re set.

The circle
Based on the book by Dave Eggers, I remember this came out in 2017, but didn’t really make waves. Based on the big tech companies, I feel this gets more and more relevant, so it might be worth revisiting.
In the movie Hanks is seen often eating in the company’s cafeteria, meals which include salmon, salad and soups.

Joe versus the volcano
I don’t remember watching this movie, so maybe I missed it or its time for a rewatch. Apparently they eat a lot of volcano themed tropical food like – Worm burgers (maybe a veggie burger) volcano lobsters, magical rainbow cake, sloppy dough etc.
If you wanna be depressing or make it easy, Joe begins eating tv-dinners so that’s always an option.

Saving private Ryan
While war movies are low on my list of interests, I can’t make a Hanks list without including this one. And while I don’t personally enjoy war movies I know many people do.
While they ration and live off scraps for the majority there is a scene where they talk about a bacon sandwich and we later see them eat a corned beef/ roast beef sandwich.

Splash
The only thing you see Daryl Hannah eat is lobster, so if you can serve lobster, good for you. Us mere mortals over here might substitute that for a lobster roll with some fries or a cheaper seafood like crab or shrimps.

Sully
A typical US airways meal would be chicken, beef or pasta with Häagen-Dazs ice cream for dessert.
Personally I have a kick-ass recipe for a creamy pasta with beef that would be perfect for this!

Finch
Menu: This is the ruins of civilization, so canned foods are really all that’s left. Specifically he eats canned peaches, so maybe do that for dessert after making yourself a meal out of your favorite canned food. Or just make whatever you can out of the scraps that you have laying around. Scavenge is the key word here!

Greyhound
Menu: What do you eat on a boat? The soldiers and officers aboard the USS Keeling were served canned meals common for long voyages. During wartime I read the book of SPAM that it was one of the foods that made it through every corner of the world. So may I suggest a can of spam? Corned beef? Or Tuna?
