If you need to add books to your summer reading list and want to read the book before watching the movie (and you want to have time to do it) here are some books to screen adaptations coming ca 2025/2026:

The woman in cabin 10 by Ruth Ware
A netflix movie adaptation is expected to come out in the fall of 2025, but no date has been released yet. The thriller is starring Keira Knightly, Guy Pierce and Hannah Waddingham.

While on a luxury cruise for a travel assignment, a journalist witnesses a passenger tossed overboard late one night, only to be told that she must have dreamed it, as all passengers are accounted for. Despite not being believed by anyone onboard, she continues to look for answers, putting her own life in danger.
And if you like this one, Ruth Ware has a follow up book coming out this july 8, 2025 called “The woman in suite 11”.

The long walk by Stephen King (Richard Bachman)
In the near future, where America has become a police state, one hundred boys are selected to enter an annual contest where the winner will be awarded whatever he wants for the rest of his life. The game is simple – maintain a steady walking pace of four miles per hour without stopping. Three warnings, and you’re out – permanently.
Prepare for many young male faces being watched over by Mark Hamill as the Major and Judy Greer as Mrs. Garraty.
Release date September 12, 2025.

Regretting you by Colleen Hoover
Directed by Josh Boone (The fault in our stars) for Paramount pictures. The movie is starring Allison Williams, McKenna Grace and Mason Thames.
Centers on the strained relationship between young mother Morgan Grant and her teenage daughter Clara, exacerbated by Morgan’s husband Chris’s tragic death, forcing them to navigate life’s challenges together.
The movie is expected to be released by the end of October 2025.

The running man by Stephen King
The running man was already made into a movie in 1987 starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. The story centers around a man joining a game show where contestants, allowed to go anywhere in the world, are pursued by “hunters” hired to kill them.
Starring Glenn Powell, Josh Brolin, Coleman Domingo, Michael Cera, William H. Macy, Sean Hayes and many more – this movie is set to release early november 2025.

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
Guillermo del Toro is remaking Frankenstein with Jacob Ellordi as the monster (have a hard time picturing that), Oscar Isaac as Dr. Frankenstein and Mia Goth as Elizabeth.
Not sure we needed a new version of this, but it being del Toro’s favorite story, I have no doubt he’ll do it justice!
The movie is set for release in november 2025.

The housemaid by Freida McFadden
Follows a struggling woman named Millie (Sydney Sweeney) who is happy to start over as a housemaid for an affluent, elite couple (Brandon Sklenar and Amanda Seyfried).

This is probably the most read book out there (2,5 million ratings on goodreads alone), so I doubt there are many left to read it before the release, but if you still haven’t read it – there is still time.
Set to release christmas day 2025.

People we meet on vacation by Emily Henry
Netflix has set a realease date on this one and it’s January 9, 2026!
Hailing from director Brett Haley (I’ll See You in My Dreams), the rom-com follows free-spirited Poppy (Bader) and routine-loving Alex (Blyth), who have been unlikely best friends for a decade, living in different cities but spending every summer vacation together. The careful balance of their friendship is put to the test when they begin to question what has been obvious to everyone else — could they actually be the perfect romantic match?

Crime 101 – a novella by Don Winslow
Centered on detective Lou Lubesnick tracking a jewel thief adhering to the “Crime 101” rules – a strict set of guidelines for the perfect heist.

Set to release february 13, 2026.

Project hail mary by Andy Weir
The trailer and movie poster is already out, fans have been waiting for this one, but it’s not set to release before march 20, 2026.
Plenty of time to read the book – or as fans have recommended – listen to the audiobook! It’s one of the best audiobooks -if not THE best one currently on the market.
The story centers around science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) waking up on a spaceship light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission: solve the riddle of the mysterious substance causing the sun to die out. He must call on his scientific knowledge and unorthodox ideas to save everything on Earth from extinction… but an unexpected friendship means he may not have to do it alone.

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin.
First and foremost – one of my favorite books that I highly recommend – Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin. It went viral as soon as it came out in 2022 and has over 1,2 million ratings on goodreads to 4,13 stars – which if you know goodreads ratings, that’s really good for a book with so many ratings. It’s being adapted into a movie by Paramount pictures and has gotten Siân Heder to direct. She also directed the wonderful award winning movie “CODA”. Mark Bomback (who also adapted “War for the planet of the apes”) is adapting the screenplay from a draft by Gabrielle Zevin.
The novel explores a decades-long friendship set against the backdrop of the video game industry. Spanning thirty years, from University, to starting a company while examining identity, disability, failure, success and our need to connect – to love and be loved. This love story is so different from anything else out there. It will forever be my absolute favorite book. I only hope the movie does it justice!

Margo’s got money troubles by Rufi Thorpe
Currently being made into an Apple+ series by David E. Kelley, along with A24, starring Elle Fanning as Margo, Michelle Pfeiffer as her mom, Nick Offerman as her dad, Nicole Kidman as mediator and Greg Kinnear as the moms new boyfriend. This is such a stellar cast that expectations are very high!
The story follows a young mother who finds herself struggling to make ends meet. When her estranged father offers help, she starts an OnlyFans account using his advice from pro wrestling. Though successful, she wonders if internet fame comes at too high cost.
I absolutely loved this book and the message it sends about how we stereotype and judge certain professions. It’s also a great conversation starter on the topic of sex-workers. There’s no release date set, but I’ll be looking out for this one.

The paper palace by Miranda Cowley Heller
HBO is adapting this Reese Witherspoon pick into a mini series. And is rumored to star Kate Winslet. The narrative spans fifty years, exploring themes of love, loss, and family secrets. The HBO adaptation is highly anticipated, given Heller’s background in developing shows like “The Sopranos” at HBO.
The novel focuses on Elle’s internal conflict on a single summer day at her family’s vacation home, “The Paper Palace” set in Cape Cod. She relives a passionate encounter with Jonas from the previous night while contemplating her long-standing relationship with her husband, Peter.

Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell
The story of Agnes – the wife of William Shakespeare – as she struggles to come to terms with the loss of her only son, Hamnet. A human and heart-stopping story as the backdrop to the creation of Shakespeare’s most famous play, Hamlet.
Agnes will be played by Jessie Buckley and Shakespeare by Paul Mescal. Directed by Chloé Zhao who is also behind very higly rated movies like Nomadland and Eternals.
This is a highly anticipated release seeing as the book has sold millions and has a large group of fans and rave reviews.

The Odyssey by Homer
Christopher Nolan is directing a movie adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey, scheduled for release on July 17, 2026. The film will star Matt Damon as Odysseus and Tom Holland as Telemachus. It will chronicle Odysseus’s ten-year journey home after the Trojan War.
The cast also includes Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron. Needless to say, fans are excited!

Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë
The well known passionate and tumultuous love story set against the backdrop of the Yorkshire moors, exploring the intense and destructive relationship between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw – played by Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie.

The project started a bidding war prior to production, with many rival studios wanting to aquir the picture, but Warner Brothers won out in the end due partly to their commitment to a theatrical release for the film. It’s been set to release in time for valentines day 2025.

Verity by Colleen Hoover
Fans have already seen leaked photos of this being filmed on location in New York city. Anne Hathaway is playing the title role of Verity, Josh Harnett as the husband and Dakota Johnson as Lowen Ashleigh.

Lowen Ashleigh gets hired by Jeremy Crawford to ghostwrite novels for his bestselling author wife Verity, who’s unable to finish after an accident. Lowen uncovers Verity’s disturbing truths while residing at the Crawfords’ home to work.
The movie is set to release in may 2026.

Three bags full by Leonie Swann
Every night a shepherd reads aloud a murder mystery, pretending his sheep can understand. When he is found dead, the sheep realize at once that it was a murder and think they know everything about how to go about solving it.
The book was first published in 2005, but has since been picked up for a movie starring Bryan Cranston, Hugh Jackman, Emma Thompson, Nicholas Galitzine, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Patric Stewart – just to name a few!
I’m sure it’s set for a big release when it comes out some time in 2026.

The Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
Once a Late show with Jimmy Fallon book club pick (whatever happened to that bookclub?) and now a a Paramount pictures production with one of the best cast I have ever seen! Idris Elba, Cynthia Erivo, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Viola Davis, Regina King, Damson Idris as Inan and Thuso Mbedu as Zelie.
The movie is currently filming in Lagos and is set to release early 2027. So here’s time to catch up with the whole trilogy.
The story centers around a woman blessed with magical powers by the gods and living in a place where you are forbidden to use them. She teams up with a princess to summon the gods and bring down the oppressive regime.

The Magician’s newphew by C. S. Lewis
The young children, Digory and Polly, accidentally unleash the malevolent White Witch onto an unsuspecting 20th century London. Will be an adaptation of the C.S. Lewis novel of the same name, and the first in a series of Netflix adaptations of the Narnia book series.
This is the 6th book in publicaton order, but first book in cronological order.
Greta Gerwig is set to direct, but there are currently no other news on cast of release date.

Sunrise on the reaping by Suzanne Collins
The book was released march 2025, but the movie is already in the works!
Sunrise on the reaping Explores Panem 24 years before Katniss’ saga, starting on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, where a young Haymitch Abernathy participates.
Filming is just about to start and the target release is november 20,2026.
